I’ve just spent a fabulous flowery weekend in Harrogate with lots of other British flower growers & florists who are part of the nationwide network of Flowers from the Farm. There was lots of information shared from experienced flower growers and wonderful floral demonstrations by Fiona of Firenzafloraldesign.co.uk & Jonathan Moseley – jonathan-moseley.com both of whom are great supporters of British flower growers.
We also had lots of seasonal British blooms to play with and a bountiful of foliage. The fragrance was stunning and other people using the hotel were popping their heads in the room to see where the glorious perfume was coming from.

I have met so many lovely people through Flowers from the Farm everyone is so supportive and shares information freely. We all want to play our part in helping the British flower industry grow again. Most of the flowers for sale in this country are imported, British growers are down to 10 – 15% of the market and there are also very few varieties available as the wholesale market is only interested in flowers that can be transported easily around the world via Holland. Most flowers are 6-8 days old before they get to the retailers and are pumped with chemicals to ensure they last.
Flowers from the Farm members are trying to reverse that trend and supply unusual varieties that are scented, grown in their natural season and have only travelled tens of miles not thousands of air miles.
Take a look at the website and support your local flower growers and help the British flower industry grow again. www.flowersfromthefarm.co.uk
