The revival of dried flowers over the last few years is a very welcome one for British flower growers and florists who like to use locally grown flowers. They are becoming more and more popular for weddings and I have created dried flower designs for all styles of weddings from wildflower meadow theme through to Boho glam style.
So why choose dried flowers for your wedding?
Sustainable/eco-friendly choice – Dried flowers for weddings are fabulous at any time of year however they are a really good sustainable choice during the winter and early spring months when we have less locally grown flowers blooming here in the UK. So instead of choosing flowers that have been flown half way across the world, locally grown dried flowers will be so much kinder to the environment.
You could have a completely dried flower bouquet or we can weave in dried flower elements along with fresh ingredients.

Dried Flowers offer a practical choice for flower installations
I also love using dried flowers to create installations particularly for tipi’s and Sailcloth weddings as there is no worry about the flowers wilting if the temperature rises during the summer months. They also fit effortlessly into Autumn arrangements as this is when the grasses and seed pods naturally dry out in the fields, so it’s wonderful to add in these textural sun bleached elements into wedding flower arrangements.

With Dried flowers you get to enjoy your flowers for longer
More of my couples are looking at ways to preserve their wedding flowers so by choosing dried flowers for some or all of your flowers they will already be preserved. Your everlasting florals will last long after your wedding day, a lovely memento for you and your bridal party to keep as a reminder of your wedding day. One of my groom’s dried flower buttonhole was so popular that he gifted it to a friend.
We will share advice on how best to look after your flowers to keep them looking good for as long as possible.
Dried wedding flowers are also a fabulous option for buttonholes and flower crowns/hair flowers particularly on hot summer days when fresh flowers can wilt in the heat so quickly. By choosing dried flowers you can avoid the wilt and your flowers will look good all day long.

Please choose naturally dried flowers and be kind to the planet
Unfortunately there is a trend for a lot of chemically bleach florals which are not kind to the environment or for the people that have to work with these nasty chemicals! Just think what is involved in turning naturally green foliage to bleached white, it takes a lot of processes with many chemicals. Hence why I will not use these in my designs. Please be aware of these when buying dried flowers, take a sniff, the ones doused in chemicals will not smell nice.
We grow and dry a lot of our own flowers here at The Flower Patch which are all dried naturally. To achieve a natural sun kissed look I hang them to dry in the bright sun under cover for a few weeks. Whilst the brighter blooms are tucked away to dry in the dark to keep their colour. A few of our favourites are Miscanthus, Bunny Tail grasses, Poppy seed heads, Lunaria (Honesty), Straw Flowers, Astrantia, Larkspur, Echinops, Achillea, Dahlias, Peonies…… the list goes on as there is always something new to try and it’s always exciting to see the effect.

I hope this post has inspired you to consider locally grown dried flowers for your wedding day. Get in touch, to see how I can add a touch of magic to your wedding with dried flowers.
