This winter has been so mild (the mildest on record) it tricked the plant world into waking up early and then this week has seen the first flurries of snow! No wonder the plants are very confused! We’ve had snowdrops flowering in the garden a month earlier than usual and the trees are full of blossom already. We’ve had to cover some of the plants with fleece on the frosty nights we’ve had lately.
Even though the weather has turned colder, it is now officially Spring and it does feel good to see the days drawing out and the garden slowly coming to life. The tulips and other spring bulbs are popping up and the anemones in the polytunnel are starting to flower. I’ve also been preparing the flower beds and had some help from my lovely husband and Dad making some proper paths, in my cutting patch as I’m on a slope the straw covered paths were turning into mud slides but it’s all looking more organised, neater and safer now.
